State readies red carpet as Trudeau arrives today

CHANDIGARH: Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri will receive Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar tomorrow.

Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri will receive Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar tomorrow.

Later, they would also accompany Trudeau on his visit to the Golden Temple.

A formal communication from the Deputy Chief of Protocol, Ministry of External Affairs, Ashish Sharma, was received here this afternoon. Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has already directed the state machinery to roll out the red carpet for the visiting dignitary.

As per the programme, Sidhu would receive the Canadian PM at both places. At the airport, Sidhu would be accompanied by Commissioner of Police SS Srivastva and Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha.

Later at Partition museum, Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aujla and Amritsar Mayor Kamaljeet Singh Rintu would accompany Sidhu.

Incidentally, when Trudeau along with his family and a delegation of Canadian ministers arrive at the Golden Temple, they would be received formally by SAD president Sukhbir Badal, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal.
