Chandigarh, April 30

Punjab is yet to receive the full amount of the cash credit limit (CCL) for buying wheat. Though the RBI approved CCL of Rs 17,253 crore last week, to be paid to the state by a consortium of banks, the government has received just Rs 11,000 crore till date. The issue was discussed at the Cabinet meeting held here this morning.

Sources said Food Minister Adaish Partap Singh Kairon reportedly told his Cabinet colleagues that Rs 5,100 crore had been released by the banks to the state government today, and that the entire CCL would be cleared after the banks got the approval from their Board of Directors.

Cong threatens stir

The Congress today flayed the government for failing to lift the wheat lying in the grain markets across the state. Giving a four-day ultimatum to the government, the party said that otherwise it will launch a mass agitation. A meeting of the party leaders was held today at the Congress Bhavan.
