Mansa, July 28
Stopped from taking drugs, a youth killed first fought with his father and then killed his grandfather by strangling him at Bhikhi in Mansa.
Based on the statement given by the deceased’s wife, the police registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against the accused who is absconding.
SHO Bhikhi Paramjit Singh said that 26-year-old Manpreet Singh was unemployed and was addicted to liquor and habit-forming substances. Irked at the constant reprimand of his family members, he used to stay away from them.
“Late on Thursday night, Manpreet came home in an inebriated condition. When he was pulled up by his father Avtar Singh, a heated argument ensued. Aiming to pacify the father-son duo, 70-year-old Kaur Singh intervened,” the SHO said.
Manpreet then turned to his grandfather and began fighting with him. The youth allegedly held him by his throat and strangled him. “Avtar tried to pull him away but in vain. He died on the spot. Realising that the situation had got out of hand, Manpreet fled away,” said Gurnam Kaur, wife of the deceased. The police handed over the body to the family members after the post-mortem examination.
