Patiala, November 25

Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi came down heavily on the BJP government in the Centre and other outfits of the Sangh Parivar for creating an issue and for trying to muzzle the voice of actor Aamir Khan “who just voiced genuine perception of an atmosphere of rising intolerance in the country, a perception shared not only by tens of millions of secular Indians, but also by thousands of eminent personalities from the field of literature, science and the cine world”.

Reiterating his earlier statement that there was continuous shrinkage of democratic space in the country in the field of education, art and literature, science and historical research, Gandhi said that there was an overt and covert attempt by the ruling BJP and Sangh Parivar to saffronise various institutions of learning in the country.

While there is nothing objectionable in Aamir Khan’s statement, it is rather the provocative and threatening comments by various quarters which paint India as an intolerant nation, he said.

Dr Gandhi said that by adopting pro-corporate, anti-farmer, anti-labourer and anti-tribal policies as its economic agenda and attempts to make India a Hindu nation as its social agenda, the present regime seems to be taking India towards economic and social anarchy and disaster.
