Ex-militant hacked to death in Batala village

BATALA: A former militant, who was blinded in an internecine warfare 16 years ago, was found murdered at his residence at Jahadpur Sekhwan village, near here, today.

A former militant, who was blinded in an internecine warfare 16 years ago, was found murdered at his residence at Jahadpur Sekhwan village, near here, today.

Kamal Shamsher Singh (49) was aligned with several terrorist organisations during the peak of militancy in the state.

The police claimed that the victim the attack  was so vicious that his body was virtually dismembered.

SSP Daljinder Singh Dhillon said: “We are zeroing in some youth who came to meet him yesterday and had drinks with him. Prima facie his death seems to be instant although we are still awaiting the autopsy report.”

Sources say in 2000, some militants, with whom Kamal had developed enmity, threw acid on his face following which he was partially blinded.

Following this incident, the deceased had gone into self- imposed exile and later became a “tantrik”. He was paid well by his customers for his “skills in curing ailments”.
