Five persons, including a mother-son duo, were crushed to death by an unidentified vehicle at Kheerawali village near Sultanpur in Kapurthala district on Monday early morning.
All were on the way to pay obeisance at gurdwara in the village when met with the tragedy.
Since there is no eyewitness in the case, police are finding it tough to identify the erring driver. Police have, however, collected the CCTV footage from the nearby commercial establishments for the purpose.
The deceased have been identified as Kulwant Kaur (45), Kulwinder (35), Harjinder Kaur (35), her son Balwinder Singh (30) and Narinder Kaur. All were residents of Kheerawali village.
Kapurthala SSP Rajinder Singh reached the spot for investigation.
Sultanpur DSP Pyara Singh said the incident occurred at 4.45 am when five villagers were going to gurdwara. It was only after some villager noticed the victims lying in blood on the road, police were informed. All deceased were into farming profession.
