Ticket-checker attacks student with ‘kirpan’

SANGRUR: A ticket-checker of a private mini bus allegedly attacked an undergraduate student with a ‘kirpan’ on Sohian Road today after they had an argument over the sale of tickets.

A ticket-checker of a private mini bus allegedly attacked an undergraduate student with a ‘kirpan’ on Sohian Road today after they had an argument over the sale of tickets. Two persons have been arrested, while two others are at large.

Victim Gursewak Singh, who was reportedly attacked by ticket-checker Kulwinder Singh, alias Kala, and his accomplices, was admitted to the civil hospital. A student of Government Ranbir College, Gursewak was administered some stitches on his hand.

Kulwinder Singh and Maninder Singh of Kammomajra Khurd village have been arrested, while Laadi of Gaggarpur village and Gurwinder are at large.

Gursewak, along with some other students, had boarded the mini bus at Nagra village to reach his college in Sangrur. When the bus reached Sohian Road, near here, it was stopped for ticket-checking. An altercation ensued between the ticket-checker and the students over the sale of tickets. An agitated Kala, along with his accomplices, then reportedly attacked Gursewak.

Satnam Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector and investigating officer in the case, said a case had been registered against four persons under Sections 323, 324 and 34 of the IPC.

Meanwhile, members of Punjab Students Union, led by district vice-president Shanker Badra, today took out a march. They demanded that the erring persons be booked.
