Accusing the Centre of failing to curb the inflow of drugs through Punjab’s borders, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said today that the state police were doing a much better job.

Sukhbir, along with DGP Suresh Arora, was talking to the media on the sidelines of the statewide launch of the country’s first Rapid Rural Police Response System.

The Deputy CM said it was the proactive Punjab Police who had prevented drugs from reaching every nook and corner of the country.

“Going by the magnitude of drug smuggling, the state needs many more personnel to man the borders. I have written to the Union Home Minister on the issue,” Sukhbir said.

Sukhbir Badal slammed the media for playing up news about drug addiction in Punjab.

Calls AAP anti-Punjab

Hoshiarpur: Sukhbir Badal today flayed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying the “anti-Punjab” and “anti-Sikh” outfit was going all guns blazing to disrupt the atmosphere of communal harmony in the state. He was speaking on the concluding day of Sangat Darshan in Tanda today.

In the two-day programme, Sukhbir distributed cheques worth Rs 30 crore to the people of Tanda Urmar region. — OC
