Amritsar, June 24

Leader of the Opposition HS Phoolka today urged Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to summon CM Capt Amarinder Singh and other Congress legislators for “denigrating” the turban of AAP leaders.

Phoolka along with party MLAs Pirmal Singh, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Jai Kishan Singh Rorhi and Amarjit Singh Sandoha, who were thrown out of the Assembly by marshals on June 22, submitted a memorandum to Akal Takht. Since the Jathedar was not available, the memorandum was handed over to his secretary Bhupinder Singh.

Phoolka said the episode was a reflection of the muzzling of democracy. He said it happened in the presence of the CM, but he did not try to prevent it. He said it was apparent that law was violated at the behest of the CM and Speaker Rana KP Singh. He said the turban of MLA Manjit Singh Bilaspur came off in the Assembly where all ruling party leaders were present.

Enact law to curb pandemonium: Brar

Muktsar: Former MP and TMC state president Jagmeet Singh Brar on Saturday said the government should enact a law or amend the earlier legislation so that no member of the Vidhan Sabha can come to the Well of the House. “Some states have already passed such a law. Further, the whips of parties should be responsible to see that the members speak within their given time,” said Jagmeet, while talking about the recent ruckus in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. He said: “The incident has embarrassed every citizen of the state. It is the collective responsibility to maintain discipline, not just of the Congress or the Speaker.” TNS
