New Delhi, June 30

At least 70 per cent weightage will be given to student performance while evaluating the Annual Confidential Report (ACR) of school teachers in Punjab.

“We have linked teachers’ ACR to students’ academic performance from this year. We have revised the pro forma for teachers to enable this evaluation,” said state Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema here today. The 2016 school exam results have been declared and are being used to evaluate teachers’ ACR.

“We have started a lifetime teachers’ award from this year to encourage senior-level experienced teachers. The award includes Rs 1-lakh cash prize and will be given to one male and one female teacher,” said Cheema.

One-fourth of the total teachers eligible for the state-level award will now be identified by the state department to ensure that teachers who do not apply for the award on their own are also recognised and encouraged for their good work. District and circle-level education officers have been asked to identify good teachers in their areas for the award.
