Ludhiana, November 28

Three children died in a fire that erupted due to a gas leak at a residential colony for migrant labourers in Sherpur Kalan village on Saturday.

The victims — Neetu (5), Krishna (4) and Ladho (2) — were asleep when their mother, Sangeeta, lit a stove to make tea at 8.30 am, unaware of the leak.

Sangeeta's two other children — Sangeeta and Kajol, both aged nine and also sleeping in the same room— managed to escape the place. They were taken to the district civil hospital to treat their burns.

Investigators found a gas leak to be the cause of the fire, Kamaljeet Singh, SHO Focal Point Police station said.

The children's father, a daily wager, was away for work at the time of the accident. (With PTI inputs)
