Jalandhar, January 3
Three persons were killed and two injured in a collision between the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train, on its way from Ferozepur to Jalandhar, and a loaded tractor trailer at Wariana manned railway crossing here on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Bhajan Singh, DMU driver, Paramjit Singh, technician, and Chotey Lal, driver of the tractor.
Surinder Kaur, a class four railway employee, and ticket examiner Longenus Tirkey received injuries. The injured have been admitted to a private hospital. The accident occurred at 8.50 am. The train dragged the trailer for over half a kilometre on the track.
Northern Railway DRM, NC Goyal, reached the spot and has ordered an inquiry. It has been alleged that the gate man, Brijesh Kumar, did not close the railway crossing gate. Kumar allegedly fled the spot after the accident.
