A joint SAD-BJP delegation led by SAD general secretary Bikram Singh Majithia today presented the victims of an atrocity case in Bagga village of Majitha before the National Scheduled Caste Commission here and demanded immediate registration of a criminal case and the arrest of Congress leader Sukhjinder Raj Lali Majithia and other accused. It also sought the dismissal of Station House Officer (SHO) ASI Avtar Singh who had kept a Dalit victim in illegal confinement.

Presenting the victims – Kashmir Singh and his family members before the Commission, Majithia narrated their tale of woes and demanded immediate action. He stressed that the police had not registered a case despite the fact that the first incident of stripping and thrashing of Kashmir Singh had taken place on April 17 and the second attack on the family on April 29.

Women public representatives accompanying Majithia said the modesty of Kashmir’s wife and daughter had also been outraged by the Congressmen on April 29 and that required cases in this regard should also be registered. Accused kin of the Congress leader had even put up a Facebook post after stripping the victim, with his picture, and used casteist remarks while threatening to teach Dalits a lesson.

SC Commission Regional Director Raj Kumar Chhanena assured immediate action in the matter. He also assured the delegation that he would visit Bagga village himself along with a team. The Director held a meeting with police officials to know why no action had been taken till now.

In a separate development, Majithia also met state police chief Suresh Arora and highlighted how a public meeting organised by ADGP Law and Order Rohit Chaudhary in Majitha recently had been hijacked by criminals. He said it was unfortunate that undesirable elements had been offered front row seats at the meeting, all alleged to be supporters of Lali Majithia. The Majitha MLA said this had sent a wrong message to the public who wanted justice in the Dalit atrocity case.
