Members of the All Punjab Truck Operators Union today thronged the Shambhu border, blocked the National Highway No. 1 and held protests against the alleged anti-operator policies of the Union Government. This was part of their ongoing strike on the call of the All India Motor Transport Congress.

These operators were protesting the anti-truck operator policies, including high rate of toll in the country. The leaders alleged that the Centre was pursuing anti-transport policies and was all out to hurt the transporters.

Operators from across the state, led by All India Motor Transport Congress chairman Charan Singh Lohara, blocked traffic for over an hour. The police tried to persuade them to lift the dharna to restore the traffic movement.

Operators from Ludhiana, Patiala, Mohali, Derabassi, Chandigarh and other parts of the state had assembled there for the demonstration.
