Malout, June 29

Two days after the arrest of Akali councillor from Malout Sham Lal Gupta, alias Daddi, in the recruitment scam, a team of the Vigilance Bureau from Mohali today raided his residence and three shops.

The raids conducted by a team headed by DSP (Vigilance) Yogi Raj continued for almost seven hours. Daddi, who is in the custody of the Vigilance Bureau, was not brought to his hometown.

Sources in the Vigilance Bureau said except nearly Rs1.25 lakh from Daddi’s house and some bank account details, nothing important could be found.

“We will thoroughly investigate the seized record. It may reveal names of some more persons involved in the scam. Further, the bank account statements may also reveal many things,” said an officer.

The VB team today reached Daddi’s house in two SUVs around 11 am and locked it from inside. Some local policemen were deployed outside. The entire proceedings were videographed. At the time of the raid, Daddi’s father, brother and wife were present at the house, the sources said.

The team then went to Daddi’s shop of tubewell spare parts located along the national highway. The officials reportedly asked those present at the shop to produce the lists of job aspirants allegedly prepared by Daddi.

Later, the team raided a pesticide shop belonging to Daddi’s brother in the grain market and also went to the office of his commission agent brother in the evening.

Arrest Kolianwali for selling jobs: AAP

Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday demanded the arrest of senior Akali leader and chairman, Punjab Agro Industries Corporation, Dyal Singh Kolianwali, after the Vigilance Bureau nabbed his close aide and Akali councillor Sham Lal Daddi in the recruitment scam. “Daddi could not have run the entire job racket on his own and without the backing and support of Kolianwali. Unless Kolianwali was arrested, the ongoing probe by the VB will not go too far,” AAP MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann said. Kolianwali was being spared by the investigating agencies because of his close proximity with top Punjab politicians. — TNS
