Patiala, December 20
Despite the cancellation of the FIR against a Haryana boy, who was earlier arrested for possessing drugs, the role of the police team that framed the boy is under scanner. Ashwinder Singh, alias Ashu, was reportedly held with 10 gm smack and over 1,200 psychotropic tablets from Ghanaur.
A Patiala court now wants to know the source of the drugs. The police have ordered a departmental probe into the matter.
The FIR that now stands cancelled stated that Sub-Inspector Karnail Singh posted with the Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) had laid a naka on May 22. He had received a tip-off that Shahbad resident Ashwinder Singh smuggles contraband in his Swift car with registration number HR78-A-0885.
Those in the police team at the naka are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Joginder Singh, ASI Gulzar Singh, Head Constables Harjinder Singh, Sahib Singh, Ranjit Singh and Raj Singh.
The accused’s father, Surjit Singh, claimed that a police team headed by Karnail Singh had picked up his son from Shahbad and the mobile tower locations of the police team indicated that the police team was in Haryana till 12.10 pm.
“A policeman is seen getting out of my son’s car in the video footage procured from the Shambhu Toll Plaza at 12.17 pm on the same day when my son’s arrest was shown in Ghanaur at 1 pm,” he said. Surjit alleged Karnail was asking for Rs 20 lakh bribe.
Sources said the police have failed to book the policemen involved in the case. A Patiala court is hearing the case at present.
