Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh today ruled out opening of licensed poppy husk shops in Punjab, saying that he and his party were strictly opposed to the consumption of all types of drugs, whether natural or synthetic.

Interacting with residents of Payal and Raikot Assembly segments during two programmes of “Halke Vich Captain,” here today, Amarinder appealed to people to give him a chance so that he could “bring back the smile on the face of each and every Punjabi.”

He agreed to the suggestion that Punjab, like Haryana, must introduce the Anand Karaj Act. “I wonder why Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, despite claiming himself to be the guardian of Panthic interests, has failed to introduce the Act in Punjab when the Congress had offered unconditional support to his government on the issue.”

He said since PM Narendra Modi had “failed to deliver on his promise of bringing back the black money from abroad, his government had virtually started terror and extortion” against the traders and businessmen”.
