The Punjab Government employees, who are absent from duty for a year without any sanctioned leave, will be considered as ‘deemed resigned’, the Finance Department has instructed.
In a letter issued by the Finance Department, clear instructions have been issued that if any officer or employee of Punjab Government is absent from his duty for more than one year without any prior sanctioned leave, his absence will be treated as resignation from government service.
Divulging further, an official spokesman said that such employee would not be allowed to rejoin government service.
He said that the concerned competent authority would have to issue immediate orders to terminate services of these absentees as per rules, failing which the concerned authority would be held responsible.
He said this action has been taken because in such cases not only the discipline of the office is in disarray but there is also disruption in the delivery of public services due to absence of employees.
The spokesperson said that such behaviour is against the spirit of public service, and no reason can justify continuation of their service as a government employee.
