Patiala, September 2

Two Patiala youths reportedly fell into the Bhakra canal while clicking pictures. While the police have recovered the body of one of the victims, the hunt is on to trace the second youth.

Arshdeep (25) and Nitesh (24) allegedly fell into the Bhakra as the latter was clicking a selfie with a mobile phone. Jaspreet, who was accompanying them, reportedly did not inform the police or the families of his friends about the incident and returned home.

The families later approached the police claiming that Jaspreet knew about the whereabouts of the youths and might even be involved in some mishap. On questioning, Jaspreet admitted that both had fallen into the Bhakra canal.

The police have registered a case under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 201 of IPC against Jaspreet.

Both Arshdeep and Nitesh were the only sons of their families. DSP (city-2) Gurdev Singh Dhaliwal said the divers have recovered the body of Arshdeep from Kalwanu near Ghagga and the hunt was on for Nitesh. The deceased worked in a private shop in Tripri while Nitesh worked in a call centre in Chandigarh.
