Amritsar, Feb. 3.

In its three-hour closed door meeting to-day, the Shromani Akali Dal's Working Committee discussed and decided certain organisational matters. It also discussed the coming general elections and, without recording any decision, reiterated its stand to adhere to the settlement with the Congress.

Master Tara Singh, who presided over the meeting and who has not so far joined the Congress, assured members that he stood by his word to support all Congress Candidates, except about eight or ten against whom he had furnished documentary proof of corruption and doubtful integrity.

In the meeting, it was also disclosed that the State Congress had sent out circulars to neo-Congress Akalis, nominated by the Congress High Command, asking them to sign a statement against Master Tars Singh's published views about certain Congress leaders. All those Akalis have declined to sign such a disclaimer.

The meeting informally dissociated itself from, the stand taken by the convention of dissident group which had authorised Principal Iqbal Singh MLA to put up Akali candidates in opposition to the Congress.

Akali Dal leaders said that Principal Iqbal Singh or his convention had no Panthic mandate or backing of Akalis, but was the outcome of his personal frustration, as the Congress had not given him a ticket for which he had applied.

Inquiries made by THE TRIBUNE showed that Master Tara Singh was determined to oppose S. Pratap Singh Kairon, S. Gian Singh Rarewala, Gyani Gurmukh Singh Musafir, Mr. Brish Bhan, S. Prem Singh Prem and a few others.

Congress circles are greatly worried over this half-hearted Akali support and are still doubtful if this Akali-Congress alliance will prove beneficial to the State Congress in the long run, as the opposition parties, particularly Jan Sangh and Communists, are fully exploiting this rift.
