AFI selects India team for Asian Youth Athletics

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) selection committee today picked a 37-member team for the second Asian Youth Athletics Championship to be held in Bangkok on May 20-23.

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) selection committee today picked a 37-member team for the second Asian Youth Athletics Championship to be held in Bangkok on May 20-23. Based on the performances at the recently concluded National Youth Championships in Hyderabad, AFI committee selected 24 boys and 13 girls to represent India at the championship. The selected athletes will train at the SAI centres in Sonipat and Patiala before leaving for Bangkok next month.

Harika wins Round 7 at Reykjavik Open

Indian Grandmaster Harika Dronavalli continued her winning streak as she beat Tuvshintugs Batchimeg in the seventh round of the Reykjavik Open here. Though the world No.11 Indian was up against a lower-ranked International Master from Mongolia, she had to work really hard to eke out a victory.  Harika said, “Even though she made a mistake, I had to convert it very accurately and won after a five-hour long strategic battle.” Harika now has a five wins, one draw and a loss in a total of five and half points.  — Agencies
