AIFF to hold meet to discuss merger

NEW DELHI: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has started giving shape to its ambitious plan to merge the I-League with the newly-conceptualised Indian Super League (ISL) in the coming years.

New Delhi, August 31

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has started giving shape to its ambitious plan to merge the I-League with the newly-conceptualised Indian Super League (ISL) in the coming years.

AIFF president Praful Patel has called an urgent meeting of all the I-League and ISL club officials and the other major stakeholders in Indian football in Mumbai on Friday to discuss the “possibility of merging the two leagues” and prepare a roadmap to take club football to greater heights. The trigger point, it is believed, has been the decision by two Pune-based I-League clubs — Pune FC and Bharat FC — to possibly disband their senior teams. — TNS
