Anurag Thakur introduces Sports Ethics Bill in LS

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur introduced three private member Bills in the Lok Sabha on Monday, among them the ‘National Sports Ethics Commission'' Bill, which is aimed at establishing a national sports ethics body to ensure ethical practices in sports.

New Delhi, May 2

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur introduced three private member Bills in the Lok Sabha on Monday, among them the ‘National Sports Ethics Commission' Bill, which is aimed at establishing a national sports ethics body to ensure ethical practices in sports.

The Bill proposes severe punishment to those found indulging in match fixing.

In addition to life ban, the Bill recommends “10 years of jail term” and a fine of five times the bribe amount for any sportsperson indulging in match-fixing.

The Bill also proposes a jail time of six months as well as a fine of Rs 1 lakh for fraud of age or gender. Besides, the Bill recommends setting up of a ‘National Sports Ethics Commission', consisting of judges and eminent sportspersons, which would frame guidelines and rules to help sports bodies to ensure ethical practices. — ANI
