Mumbai, August 19
Forwards Robin Singh and Balwant Singh struck on either side of the break as India beat 160th ranked Mauritius 2-1 in their opening encounter of the AIFF tri-nation football tournament here today.
Sandesh Jhingan, leading the team for the first time, was in for a shock when Mervyn Jocelyn’s powerful shot in the 15th minute deflected in off Anas Edathodika with custodian Subrata Paul completely wrong-footed. In the 37th minute, Robin equalised before Balwant got India the lead in the 62nd. Manveer Singh almost doubled the lead but his shot went inches above the bar. — PTI
