BCCI refuses to revoke ban

NEW DELHI: The BCCI on Wednesday insisted that the ban on the three Rajasthan Royals players, S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila, would not be lifted.

New Delhi, July 29

The BCCI on Wednesday insisted that the ban on the three Rajasthan Royals players, S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila, would not be lifted.

A Delhi trial court, on July 25, dropped all charges against the trio and 33 others in connection with the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal that rocked the tournament in 2013.

“The earlier decision of the BCCI’s disciplinary committee ban in this case will stay. Disciplinary proceedings are different, criminal proceedings are different,” said BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur.

“The action taken in the past was based on the indiscipline of these players and the reports submitted by the anti-corruption unit. So, the ban will continue on these players.”

Thakur’s statement comes after Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) requested the BCCI to allow Sreesanth to play. Presently, both Chavan and Sreesanth are serving life bans imposed on them by the BCCI while Chandila’s case is still awaiting a decision. —IANS
