Dutee Chand has been provisionally allowed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to participate in all international track and field events till the final decision on her appeal against the IAAF’s hyperandrogenism policy, which bars female athletes having higher level of male hormones, is reached.
Dutee’s coach, N Ramesh, informed The Tribune about the CAS ruling on Saturday after receiving a call from the Odisha sprinter from Lausanne, Switzerland.
“Dutee has been provisionally allowed by the CAS to participate in the international competitions till June this year. They have cleared her for national and international meets till the final verdict is reached,” Ramesh said. “Dutee was really excited when she broke the news to me. The ruling has provided a huge relief to her. She is looking forward to competing in international competitions.”
Dutee, 19, had not been allowed to compete since July last after failing a hormone test. The test revealed her body produced natural levels of testosterone above IAAF’s guidelines. Her legal team argued before the CAS that the ruling is discriminatory and flawed.
