The CBI today launched a preliminary enquiry (PE) against unidentified office bearers of Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) and other unknown persons for alleged irregularities and misappropriation of funds.

The PE has been registered on the basis of a complaint about Rs 3-4 crore having been allegedly spent for infrastructure development without any estimated cost and approval from general body and without following the laid down procedures, sources said. The sources said that the money was allegedly shown to have been spent for professional consultancy without any official tender having been invited or agreement entered into with any professional group. It was also alleged that a substantial amount had been siphoned off in the name of meetings by KCA.

Giving reference of the complaint, CBI said grants given to the KCA for development of cricket were alleged to have been utilised for “non-specific purposes and personal gains by the officials of KCA.”

The CBI will also go into the allegation about dubious land deal for the construction of a stadium.
