Champions Trophy pullout not on SGM agenda

New Delhi: The BCCI agenda for the SGM to be held on May 7 has nothing about the possibility of India pulling out of the Champions Trophy.

The BCCI agenda for the SGM to be held on May 7 has nothing about the possibility of India pulling out of the Champions Trophy. However, 23 state units are said to have signed in favour of writing a letter to ICC seeking “course correction”. “23 BCCI units have sent their written approval that we need to send a letter to ICC seeking course correction. But as COA has communicated that they don’t want any legal notice to be sent to ICC, we are not sending one. But the letter would urge ICC to take corrective measure. Now the matter will be placed before general body,” said a senior BCCI official.

Rashid, Hales lead England rout of Ireland

Adil Rashid and Alex Hales shone as England crushed Ireland by seven wickets with 30 overs to spare in the first One-day International in Bristol on Friday. Leg-spinner Rashid took five wickets to help bowl Ireland out for 126 before Hales struck 55 off 39 balls to lead England to the easy target. It was the gentlest of starts to the summer for England, who are hosting the Champions Trophy in June before Test series against South Africa and West Indies.

Brief scores: Ireland 126/10 in 33 overs (Balbirine 30, Joyce 23; Rashid 5/27);

England 127/3 in 20 overs (Hales 55, Root 49; Chase 3/44)

We had no answers to Windies bowlers: Misbah

Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has admitted that his team had no answers to West Indies’ bowlers during the second innings of the Barbados Test, which the visitors lost by 106 runs. Chasing a target of 188, Pakistan were bundled out for just 81 in 34.4 overs after lunch. Shannon Gabriel produced a magical spell of hostile fast bowling and took 5/11 to break the backbone of Pakistan’s batting. “On the last day, all credit to the West Indian bowlers. They hit their lines, they bowled their heart out, and we really had no answers,” said Misbah.” — Agencies
