Nottingham, June 19

England stormed to a world record 481/6 as they demolished Australia's bowling attack in the third match of their ODI series at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Tuesday. In reply, Australia were bowled out for 239 in 37 overs, losing the match by massive margin of 242 runs.

Jonny Bairstow's swashbuckling 139 and a magnificent 147 by Alex Hales took England past the total of 444/3 they made against Pakistan, also at Trent Bridge, two years ago.

Captain Eoin Morgan joined in the fun as he struck a 21-ball half century — the fastest by an England batsman in ODIs — to become his country's leading One-day run scorer.

It looked as though England would go past the 500-run barrier before a few late wickets caused the run flow to dry up slightly.

England failed to score any boundaries in the last four overs but before that they struck 21 sixes during an incredible display of strokeplay. Australia fast bowler Andrew Tye suffered the worst punishment, his nine overs going for 100 runs. — Agencies

India A score 458/4, third-highest List A total

Leicester: Opener Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal took a second-string Leicestershire attack to cleaners as India A piled up a mammoth 458/4 to win the second warm-up game by a massive 281 runs ahead of their tri-nation ODI series starting on June 22. India A's total is currently the third highest in all List A matches behind Surrey's 496 against Gloucestershire in the 2007 One-day Championship and England's 481/6 against Australia in an ODI today. In reply to India's total, Leicestershire were all out for 177 in 40.4 overs with seamer Deepak Chahar picking up 3/24 in 6.4 overs. Shaw hammered a 90-ball-132 and added 223 runs for the opening stand with Agarwal, who smashed his way to 151 off 106 balls before being called back to give others a chance. The immensely talented Shubman Gill then hammered 86 off 54 balls to prop up the Indian total. Brief scores: India A 458/4 in 50 overs (Mayank Agarwal 151, Prithvi Shaw 120, Shubman Gill 86, Ateeq Javid 2/91); Leicestershire 177 in 40.4 overs (Tom Wells 62, Deepak Chahar 3/24, Deepak Hooda 2/9, Axar Patel 2/17).

Highest total in List A:  496/4 by Surrey (2007)  481/6 by England (today)  458/4 by India A (today)

To see almost 500 runs scored in 50 overs in England is scaring me about the health of the game and where it's going. Australian bowling getting treated this way whatever the conditions may be is not acceptable. A country of Lillee, Thompson, Benaud. Sourav Ganguly

A whirlwind of an innings from England to score close to 500 runs in a 50 over game. Looked more like an extended T20 match. Feel sorry for the bowlers. Harbhajan Singh

I didn't think I would say this but I must. England, do think of bowlers! Not just Eng vs Oz but India 'A' have hit 458 in 50 overs against some Leicestershire team. Harsha Bhogle

I hope England enforce the follow on Michael  Vaughan
