Froome failed drugs test at Vuelta: UCI

Paris: Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome (in pic) failed a drugs test for asthma medication during the Vuelta race in September, cycling’s governing body UCI said. The British Team Sky rider had twice the permitted level of legal asthma drug Salbutamol in his body. The UCI has asked Froome to provide more information but has not suspended him. Team Sky said the 32-year-old rider had suffered from asthma since childhood and had been affected by symptoms during the Vuelta a Espana, the Tour of Spain, which he went on to win. But the team said he had taken no more than the allowable amount of Salbutamol.

Batra set to be elected as IOA chief, Mehta secy-gen

International Hockey Federation chief Narinder Batra is set to be elected as the president of Indian Olympic Association during its Annual General Body Meeting tomorrow. Besides Batra, incumbent secretary general Rajeev Mehta is to be re-elected for a second term.

Sachin Siwach named ABC’s youth boxer of year

World youth champion Sachin Siwach was named the Asian Boxing Confederation’s best youth boxer of the year after winning an online poll conducted by the continental body. Siwach, who won the world title last year, claimed the Asian youth championships silver this year besides a gold at the Youth Commonwealth Games

Northern men win Railways weightlifting title

Central Railways won the women’s event, while Northern Railways took the men’s title as the 65th men’s and fourth women’s All India Railways Weightlifting Championship. In the men’s event, Northern Railways finished with 549 points, followed by Central Railways (525 points) and Eastern Railways (521). In the women’s event, Central Railways (549), Eastern Railways (531) and Western Railways (530) were the top three teams. — Agencies
