Kozhikode: Indian Arrows rode on a late strike from Abhijeet Sarkar to defeat Gokulam Kerala FC 1-0 in the I-League here today. Sarkar struck in the 77th minute as Arrows climbed one spot to seventh with 10 points. Gokulam are second from bottom in the 10-team table. Arrows displayed commendable defensive organisation, although they sometimes lost possession too easily in their opponents’ half. The deadlock was broken when local boy KP Rahul made a brilliant run down the left flank before shooting at goal. The shot was palmed away by the goalkeeper but the clearance went as far as Sarkar, who calmly slotted home the crucial goal. The hosts earned three successive corners in the dying minutes but Arrows’ custodian Prabhsukhan Gill calmly handled the situation, pulling off his maiden clean sheet this season. — IANS
