Two more records were set on the second and final day of the 33rd National Junior Athletics Championships.
In the boys’ U-16 javelin throw, Vikas Yadav of Maharashtra clinched the gold medal with a record-breaking throw of 74.73m. He broke the junior national record set by UP’s Rohit Yadav (72.05m) in Coimbatore last year.
In the boys’ U-18 category, shot-putter Dipender Dabas of Haryana clinched the gold after improving his last year’s national record (20.63m) with a new mark of 20.99m.
Damneet wins gold
Barnala lad Damneet Singh won the gold in the youth boys’ U-18 hammer throw. Damneet covered a distance of 74.89m to win the top spot.
Monika of Haryana won the gold medal in the junior girls’ U-20 javelin throw with a distance of 46.06m.
In the youth boys’ U-18 walk, Sanjay Kumar of Haryana won the gold medal by clocking 43:05.14s. Akshdeep Singh (43:35.43s) of Punjab bagged the silver medal. — TNS/Agencies
