I’ll do all I can to keep No.1 rank: Sania

HYDERABAD: Sania Mirza says she would do all it takes to maintain her world No. 1 rank. “I wish I could tell the future, but I can’t.

Hyderabad, April 19

Sania Mirza says she would do all it takes to maintain her world No. 1 rank. “I wish I could tell the future, but I can’t. So, I am going to try and keep it (No.1 one rank) for as long as possible,” said Sania, after leading India to victory over Philippines in the Fed Cup. She played a doubles match on Sunday night, helping India to a 2-1 win over Philippines 2-1.

She expressed happiness over her team winning in the Fed Cup, her first assignment after reaching the top rank in women’s doubles.

“It was really great for me to come and play in Hyderabad as No. 1. It’s pretty amazing for me. It was definitely not easy. Because, we are playing at home and the pressure was on us and I have been playing on clay courts. It’s a completely different set-up. You have to get used to everything again and again,” said Sania. — PTI
