After triumphing in the IMG Junior World Championship in San Diego, Shubham Jaglan,10, from Israna village in district Panipat, clinched his second world title in as many weeks by winning the International Junior Golf Academy World Stars event in Las Vegas by five shots.
He missed out on a hat-trick of junior world golf titles by finishing sixth in the US Kids World Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The golf prodigy's journey from the house of a milkman to becoming the double world junior golf champion in Under-10 age category has been remarkable. "I should excel as a sportsman and not think much about other external factors which could possibly affect my game,” he said. Jaglan had created quite a sensation in the golfing circles last year by winning the World Masters of Junior Golf in Las Vegas and finishing runners-up at the Callaway World Championship and the US Kids World Juniors.
His two titles this year has taken his overall tally to 130 championship wins. “I want to be counted among the top golfers like Jordan Spieth or Rory McIlroy," Jaglan told The Tribune on his return to India after a successful stint in the US.
He comes from a family of wrestlers. His uncle Jagpal Singh has been a three-time national champion in 55kg Greco- roman category. But Jaglan’s interest lies in golf.
