The Indians were struggling for most part of the 35.2 overs bowled today after being put in to bat at the Harrup Park. Openers Mandeep Singh (29 of 51 balls) and Karun Nair (15 of 25 balls) put on 31 in eight overs before the latter was dismissed by Dwaine Pretorius. Brief scores: India 'A': 140/4 (Manish Pandey 47, Kedar Jadhav 41 not out; Andile Phehlukwayo 2/23).

Dilshan to retire from ODIs 

Sri Lanka's opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan (in pic) will retire from ODIs after the third ODI against Australia in Dambulla. Sri Lanka Cricket said it would dedicate the match on August 28 against Australia to the 39-year old Dilshan for his "invaluable contribution to his mother land". SLC in a statement extended its appreciation to the batsman wishing him all the best. There was no immediate comment from Dilshan. The aggressive right-hander retired from Test cricket in October 2013 after playing 87 matches and scoring 5,492 runs. He has also taken 39 Test wickets. Sunday's ODI will be his 330th. So far, he has scored 10,248 runs in the 50-overs format of the game and taken 106 wickets.

The Indian campaign in the Hong Kong Open, season's first major PSA World Tour event, ended with the exit of Joshna Chinappa in the second round. The eighth seeded Omneya Abdel Kawy of Egypt needed just 24 minutes to finish Joshna's stay on court with scores of 11-8, 12-10, 11-4 and earn a berth in the quarterfinal round. Other Indians in the fray, Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal, had lost in the opening round.

China is facing a one-year ban from weightlifting over repeated doping cases in a move which threatens to stop some of the world's top athletes from competing internationally. The International Weightlifting Federation confirmed that three failed retests of drug test samples from the 2008 Beijing Olympics will lead to China's automatic ban -- if the cases are proven and the athletes disqualified by the International Olympic Committee. — Agencies
