Indian women lose by 105 runs to SA but win series 3-1

Surat: India put up a shoddy display to lose by 105 runs to South Africa in the sixth and final women's T20I but managed to clinch the series 3-1. India cliched the six-match series 3-1 with two games being washed out due to rain. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian woman cricketer to play 100 T20I matches. She is now among the 10 players in the world to achieve the feat. The first ODI of the three-match series between the two sides will be played in Vadodara on October 9.

Haryana beat Odisha by 4 wickets in Hazare Trophy

Half-centuries by Jayant Yadav (67) and Sumit Kumar (64*) helped Haryana beat Odisha by 4 wickets in their Group B match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The match between HP and UP was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Murali Vijay smashed a superb ton (117) to power Tamil Nadu to their fifth straight win in Group C, beating J&K by eight wickets.

Ravi Dahiya included in TOPS, Sakshi dropped

Wrestler Ravi Dahiya, who recently won a World championships bronze medal, was included in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme. Rio Olympics bronze medal winner wrestler Sakshi Malik was dropped from the programme. A committee has sanctioned the proposal of wrestler Pooja Dhanda to train for a period of one month in her hometown, Hisar, under the supervision of Romanian coach Fanel Carp. In shooting, the training, ammunition and competition requirements of seven shooters — Anjum Moudgil, Rahi Sarnobat, Manu Bhaker, Abhishek Verma, Lakshay Sheoran, Mehuli Ghosh and Anish Bhanwala — were also approved. — Agencies

3 uncapped players in Spain squad for Euro qualifiers

Spain coach Robert Moreno on Friday handed international call-ups to the uncapped trio of Pau Torres, Gerard Moreno and Sergio Reguilon for his side's upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Norway and Sweden. Former Real Madrid and Napoli defender Raul Albiol was also selected for the first time since October 2018 after joining Villarreal in the close season.

Loew backs Neuer in Germany goalie debate

Head coach Joachim Loew made it clear Friday that captain Manuel Neuer will remain Germany's first-choice goalkeeper, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen as understudy, through to next June's Euro 2020 finals. Loew settled the matter emphatically when announcing his squad for Wednesday's friendly against Argentina in Dortmund and the Euro 2020 qualifier four days later away to Estonia.
