Kul-Cha, recipe of India’s success

Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal made for a very happy pair after securing the series last night, and Chahal commented: “Kul and Cha are feeling good after wrapping up the series and making history. Wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s day.”

Port Elizabeth, February 14

Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have picked up 30 South African wickets in the five matches of the ODI series. The four other bowlers who’ve bowled for India — including frontline pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya — have grabbed a total of 11 wickets.  The two spinners, thus, have taken nearly 75 percent of the wickets picked up by India’s bowlers in the series. This clearly displays their significance in India’s first series win in South Africa.

Yadav has bowled 41 overs in five ODIs, picked up 16 wickets, with a best of 4/23. The economy rate is a very good 4.51, the average of 11.56 is fantastic, and a strike rate of a wicket every 15.3 balls is out of the world.

Chahal has bowled 42.1 overs, picked up 14 wickets, with a best of 5/22. His average is a terrific 16, economy rate is a slightly expensive 5.31, and strike rate is 18.

These are winning numbers. They show that the guile and deception inherent in wrist-spin are priceless, especially against batsmen not used to this variety of bowling.

“I knew that if we could get 270-280 it will be difficult for them because we knew the wicket is very slow and anything could happen as our wrist spinners are bowling very well and they have troubled their batsmen a lot,” Rohit Sharma said yesterday, paying tributes to the Kul-Cha duo. — TNS, agnecies
