Oz women wrap up ODI series with 8-wicket win

Hobart: Smriti Mandhana's ton went in vain as Australia rode on half-centuries by Nicole Bolton (77) and skipper Meg Lanning (61) to register a comfortable six-wicket win over India in the second ODI to seal the three-match series 2-0. After restricting India to 252/8, Australia reached the target with 20 balls to spare, losing just four wickets in the process.

Rurka boys in semifinals of Harbhajan memorial football

Punjab Police Jalandhar defeated IAF Delhi 4-1 to make their way into the semifinals of the Principal Harbhajan Singh Memorial Football Tournament in Mahilpur. The match was decided in a penalty shootout after the score remained tied (1-1) at the final whistle. IAF put up a poor show in the tie-breaker, losing to their opponents 4-1. In another contest, CRPF Jalandhar beat SGHS Banga 1-0 to reserve a berth in the semifinals. The lone goal of the match was scored by Vijay in the first half. In the college category, FA Paldi ousted DAV Jalandhar. Paldi boys conceded a goal in the first half but made a strong comeback in the second half, striking twice to seal the match 2-1. Sethuraman, Harikrishna finish joint third

Indian Grandmasters SP Sethuraman and P Harikrishna finished joint third in the masters section of Gibraltar International Chess Festival following draws against Etienne Bacrot of France and Li Chao B of China, respectively, in the final round. In a gruelling finale, Hikaru Makamura of the US retained the Gibraltar title for the second time running after winning the tiebreaker against second seed Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France. Among other Indians in the fray, Abhijeet Gupta won his final round game against Eylon Nakar of Israel to finish tenth on seven points.
