Finch battling to be fit for Sri Lanka T20

Limited-overs captain Aaron Finch is battling to be fit for Australia's opening T20I against Sri Lanka after picking up a side strain. The top-order batsman is sitting out Victoria's ongoing Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia in a bid to be ready for the first of three games against the Sri Lankans in Adelaide on Sunday. "It started out as a little back niggle and it's just a little tear in my side. So, hopefully not too long. It's been a week since I did it," Finch said.

Rashid top pick, Gayle not in the Hundred draft

Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan (in pic) became the first overseas player picked for the inaugural Hundred competition next year, but T20 stalwarts Chris Gayle and Lasith Malinga were among notable omissions in Sunday's draft. Rashid, the No. 1 T20 bowler, was snared by Trent Rockets for the top price of £125,000. Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc were picked up by Welsh Fire for £125,000 each. Their teammate David Warner joined Southern Brave, who also picked explosive West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell. Aaron Finch joined Northern Superchargers while teammate Glenn Maxwell was snared by London Spirit. Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Superchargers), Mohammad Nabi (Spirit) and Qais Ahmed (Welsh Fire) are also in the draft. Chris Gayle and Malinga entered the draft as two of its most expensive players at £125,000 each, but neither could find a team. — Agencies
