The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has decided to form a committee to look into its senior team’s poor performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Out of the five matches Punjab have played so far, they have won two, lost two and drew one. The two outright defeats at home, against Vidarbha and Bengal, have hit Punjab’s chances of advancing to the knockouts.
In its executive committee meeting today, PCA decided to form a committee to find out why the team failed to perform and what could be done to turn things around.
Currently, Punjab have 15 points from five matches and are placed third in the group. Vidarbha, with 28 points from five matches, have already qualified for the knockouts. Bengal are placed second, with 20 points from five matches in Group D. In the last round, Punjab will take on Services. They could still sneak through if they register an outright win and Bengal slip to a defeat in their final match.
Haryana win
Haryana beat Jammu and Kashmir by 18 runs in their Group B encounter at Lahli, Rohtak. Brief scores: Haryana: 184 and 167; J&K: 176 and 157 (Owais Shah 52; Ajit Chahal 5/53).
