Peshawar Zalmi beat Quetta Gladiators by 58 runs to win the second edition of Pakistan Super League at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Put in to bat, Zalmi scored 148/6 in 20 overs. Man of the Tournament Kamran Akmal top-scored with 40 runs in just 32 balls including six fours and one six. Captain Darren Sammy scored 28 runs in 11 balls lower down the order. For Gladiators, Rayad Emrit returned figures of 3/31 while Hasan Khan bagged two wickets.

In reply, Gladiators were bundled out for just 90 runs in 16.3 overs. Sean Ervine scored 24 runs while Sarfraz Ahmed made 22 runs. For Zalmi, Mohammad Asghar returned figures of 3/16.

Thousands of fans thronged the stadium as two teams, including nine foreign players, lined-up for the final despite security concerns.

Players to shave their head

Darren Sammy made a big statement before the final, saying the entire team will shave their heads if they win the title. Sammy, who was speaking to Younis Khan in a video, said, “If Peshawar wins the final, then all the Zalmi players will shave their heads.” Franchisee owner Javed Afridi will also join the ‘bald army’. “Even the boss,” Sammy was quoted as saying. — Agencies
