Chandigarh, June 29

Punjab improved its position from last year, finishing third in the overall medals tally of the 61st National School Games. Punjab bagged 388 medals — 109 gold, 139 silver and 140 bronze — to pip neighbour Haryana.

It is for the first time since the 55th National School Games in 2009-10 that Punjab has finished third.

Haryana’s total tally is 312 — 98 gold, 97 silver and 117 bronze medals. Punjab stood fourth in the 60th National School Games behind Haryana. Punjab’s rise to third place came because of a big increase in the gold medal tally — from 63 last year to 109. Haryana’s gold medal tally also increased from 85 to 98.

For the fifth year in a row, Delhi finished first, while Maharashtra finished second. Delhi bagged 711 medals — 374 gold, 194 silver and 143 bronze — and Maharashtra won 729 medals — 197 gold, 242 silver and 290 bronze.
