Surat, September 22

South Africa women defeated Board President’s XI by 83 runs in the second T20 warm-up match.

The first game was abandoned due to inclement weather. Batting first, South Africa women posted a strong total of 174/5 and then bundled out the hosts for a paltry 91 to kick off their campaign on a high.

Wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee made 65 off just 48 balls while Tazmin Brits made 20 off 19 as the duo shared a 61-run stand for the first wicket. For the hosts, off-break bowler Tarannum Pathan grabbed two wickets at the cost of 23 runs.

Chasing 175 for victory, the home team was tottering at 6/4 after their first four batters walked back to the pavilion in no time. Openers MD Thirush Kamini (2), Shafali Verma (0), Vanitha VR (4) and skipper Sushma Verma (0) had a forgettable outing as the South Africa bowlers wreaked havoc in the first two overs. It was only due to the efforts of Bharti Fulmali (23), Devika Vaidya (19), Mansi Joshi (20) and Tarannum (15*) that the home came close to the 100-run mark. No other batswoman touched double figures.

For the visitors, pace bowler Shabnim Ismail picked up 3/11 while leg-spinner Sune Luus returned figures of 3/17.

Brief Scores: South Africa women: 174/5 in 20 overs (L Lee 65, M du Preez 40; TN Pathan 2/23); Board President’s XI: 91 all out in 20 overs (BS Fulmali 23, M Joshi 20; S Ismail 3/11). — PTI
