Bihar’s Shreyasi Singh once again dominated the double trap event as she bagged yet another gold medal at the National Shooting Championships here today.

Shreyasi shot down 92 targets as opposed to 87 hits by Madhya Pradesh’s Varsha Varman to win her eighth national gold medal in the event in nine years.

ONGC’s Shagun Chowdhury, who won the gold medal in trap, was third on the podium with 84 hits.

Shreyasi said that she was gunning to match Arti Rao’s exploits in skeet. “Arti has won something like 15 gold medals in skeet. I can do that too. I am going for the record definitely,” she said.

Despite the women’s double trap event not being on the Olympics programme ever, Shreyasi has been keen on the discipline. “I always had a soft corner for double trap. Many people have this opinion that if you shoot two events, one gets hampered. But that’s not the case. Internationally, there are a lot of shooters who do two and are equally good,” she added.

Haryana’s Bhavna wins junior gold

Haryana’s Bhavna Chaudhary bagged the gold medal in the junior women’s category as she out-shot Madhya Pradesh’s Manisha Keer 79-75. Delhi’s Divya Singh won the bronze with a score of 70.
