Shakib banned for abusing umpire, player in BPL

New Delhi

Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was handed a one-match ban on Friday over a double foul-mouthed outburst during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Shakib was found guilty of uttering abusive language after dismissing Sylhet Super Stars batsman Dilshan Munaweera on Thursday. He was also found guilty of abusing an umpire too.

ATK overwhelm Pune City 4-1, qualify for ISL semis 

A hat-trick from Canadian striker Iain Hume not only gave three points to Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) but also ensured a semifinal berth for the defending champions as they beat FC Pune City 4-1 in an Indian Super League (ISL) match here on Friday. Hume scored in the ninth, 47th and the 83rd minutes to complete his second hat-trick of the edition while Serbian striker Dejan Lekic added another in injury time. Adrian Mutu pulled a consolation goal back for the visitors in the 86th minute.

India-Pak series: Shukla hopeful of government nod  

Even as the BCCI awaits clearance from the government on a short series with Pakistan, IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla on Friday reiterated his demand that the bilateral cricket ties be resumed between the two nations. “I am hopeful that the government will give the go-ahead. Both the boards have agreed on Sri Lanka as the venue,” said Shukla. His response came after MEA informed that no decision has been taken yet on the India-Pakistan series.  — Agencies
