Veteran sports journalist KR Wadhwaney passes away

Veteran sports journalist KR Wadhwaney, 90, died at his home in Press Enclave, Saket, in New Delhi on Thursday night.

Born in Karachi (now in Pakistan), he had migrated to Lucknow after 1947 and started his career before moving to New Delhi in the 1960s. He remained active as a sports journalist for almost 50 years. 

He worked in top organisations and went to become the sports editor of the Indian Express. After his retirement he was freelancing for several Indian newspapers, including The Tribune.

Wadhwaney  authored 31 books on various aspects of sports. Most of his books are laced with rare sports anecdotes which he picked up and saw during his long career.

He is survived by his wife Asha, daughter Sneh and son Rohit. The daughter, a former national level swimmer, is married to former India wicketkeeper Vijay Dahiya. The son,  a former journalist, now runs his own hospitality business.

The cremation  will be held at the Lodhi Road electric crematorium at 11.30 am on Friday, family members said.
