Bengaluru, June 30
India Test opener Murali Vijay is a big fan of newly appointed head coach Anil Kumble and he feels the players have a golden opportunity to learn from the great leg-spinner. “My first Test match was his last and I did not spend a lot of time with him, but I have been a great fan of him as a youngster,” he said here today. “It is a great opportunity for us to talk to him, learn from him and move forward.”
Asked what he makes of the Kumble-Virat Kohli combination, Vijay said: “It will be too early to comment on that, but it is going to be great 12 months for us as a team, I can guarantee that much.” Vijay said the team had a great time with Ravi Shastri as Team Director. “Hopefully, we will have a good time with Anil, too, and learn a lot of things from him. He has been an unbelievable cricketer for India,” he said.
Vijay said the upcoming West Indies tour would be quite entertaining. “It’s a great place to play cricket. It will be a confidence booster for us to perform there ahead of the long season at home. So there is a lot at stake.” — PTI
