A Memorial for Sir Charles Bayley

THE Bankipore Express is not satisfied with proposal of the Behar Landholders' Association to give a farewell entertainment to Sir Charles Bayley. It is of opinion that the Association should take the lead in initiating and ogranising a memorial movement by calling a conference of its members. "The Bayley Memorial must go forward," it thunders, "if the honour of the Province is not to be seriously compromised." Quite right. But what about the Hardinge Memorial to which the "Royal" Province has committed itself? We wish Behar talked less of Memorials and thought more of its "honour". How much did it subscribe towards the South African Fund when no less a man than Mr. Gokhale appealed for funds in the name of its "honour"? Has Behar done anything yet to raise a Memorial to Mr. Gokhale?
