Agricultural Industry.

ON  the question of improving the agricultural industry in India by using machinery, Captain Petavel makes an interesting suggestion. He thinks that much improvement could be effected in Indian agriculture if modern methods and machinery are used. The agriculturists themselves are too poor and ignorant to do so. Consequently he wants a few educated men of skill should form organisations to co-operate with landowners and agriculturists in this direction. These organisations should “lend machinery to cultivators together with the necessary skilled operators, providing good seeds and manures and taking part of the produce in payment.” In theory the co-operation of the educated and mechanically skilled with the practical agriculturists of India is most advantageous.
