An Unpopular Tax in Multan

OUR Multan correspondent telegraphs that at a special meeting of the Multan Municipal Committee held reconsider the question of thalla and takhtposh tax, imposed sometime back, it was resolved by an overwhelming majority of 16 to 4 that the tax be cancelled. The Multan MC deserves to be congratulated on the good sense shown by it. The tax complained of proved extremely obnoxious to all classes of the people and formed a source of deep irritation to those on whom its incidence fell. The shopkeepers concerned claimed the land under the thallas and takhtposhes as their own and contended that the Committee had no right whatsoever to levy an impost when the thallas or takhtposhes stood on their own land.
